To our 8th Grade Parents:

Below are some websites that would be helpful to you as you begin the college planning process with your student.

Majors.osu.edu  --  This is Ohio State’s list of its more than 175 majors. You can click on any one of them and it will take you to a “Major Series Sheet” that further explains the major, related majors, courses required, potential careers, and income potential. This can be a great resource for young people who just want to explore lots of options.

http://students.ohiohighered.org/planning/timelines   --  This is a page from the Ohio Board of regents that provides a checklist of things to be doing and thinking about each year leading up to high school graduation.

http://students.ohiohighered.org/applying/campuses/map  --  This is an interactive map that helps student begin to look at PUBLIC colleges and universities by location.

http://ohioprivatecolleges.com/  -- This is a user-friendly on-line resource for researching the PRIVATE colleges and universities in Ohio.

Fafsa.ed.gov --  This is the general FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) website. There is a lot of information here about federal grants, loans and work-study options for students. You will also see on the bottom right-hand corner the ‘FAFSA4caster’.  This is where you have a chance to run your numbers and see what you might qualify for…presuming the federal programs stay similar to what they are now.

Many thanks to Beth Keehn, MBA, Associate Director, Ohio State Lima Enrollment Services, for this information and for presenting at our January 8th Grade Parent Meeting!
